I'm actually in school right now at Grand Canyon University. So I go to school, I'm a mother, and I'm selling on eBay on the side for money.
My husband works full-time so I can stay at home with my daughter and go to school. Last May, I realized that my family needed to make more money somehow. We made the bills, but never had money for extra stuff, my daughter's clothes, shoes, or anything else we needed. That’s when I looked into eBay. I started selling baby clothes, and then got into women’s clothing which is what I love. So I’ve been doing that and it has been working out really well.
It did! In 6 months I made over $8,000.
Very easy. I really didn’t have any obstacles. It’s step 1, step 2, step 3—really self-explanatory. eBay makes it easy for someone to sell. I can list an item in about five minutes.
It's fun for me to be able to put together an outfit, take awesome photos, and basically market it on eBay. It's fun to get deals and flip them for a good profit.
What has been your most exciting eBay sale?
I will never forget it. I found a fully beaded Fendi bag. I was so excited to come across it. It had all the paperwork. I paid $30 at a garage sale for it and ended up selling it on eBay for $400. It was very exciting for me.
Do you have any advice for people who haven’t sold on eBay but are considering it?
I would say find something that you love to sell. If you don’t love to sell it, it’s not fun. I think when somebody has fun with it, the ideas start coming and you really can market it well. I really believe in just selling something that you find interesting. I find it fun to go search for brand-name stuff and get it really cheap. I think that has a lot to do with why I sell well—because I have fun doing it.
Do you have any advice on the actual process of selling?
Definitely take good photos. For example, I started by photographing baby clothes on a wooden floor, and I noticed that the colors weren’t showing up that well. So I bought a dark, black board that pops the clothes more, which boosted my sales. I noticed that people were seeing them more, and they were bidding on them more. So just finding that backdrop for your items and really making them look nice—that’s the thing.
